The WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD 1TB is an M.2 2280 form factor solid-state drive with a formatted capacity of 1 TB. It is built on a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface and is an evolution of the highly successful SN850, offering even faster speeds and enhanced features. The drive boasts blistering sequential read speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6,300 MB/s, which are near the theoretical limits of the PCIe Gen4 interface.

The SN850X is built with a proprietary controller and advanced BiCS5 112-layer TLC NAND flash memory, which, combined with a DRAM cache, ensures high performance for both sequential and random workloads. A key innovation is Game Mode 2.0, a feature within the downloadable WD Black Dashboard (Windows only) that includes performance-boosting features such as predictive loading to optimize game asset delivery, adaptive thermal management to prevent throttling, and overhead balancing to improve read latency. For console gamers, a version with a factory-installed heatsink is available and is compatible with the PlayStation 5.
