Description
The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X (ER-X) is a high-performance, 5-port Gigabit Ethernet router. It is powered by a dual-core 880 MHz MIPS1004Kc processor and runs on Ubiquiti’s proprietary EdgeOS operating system. The router is known for its powerful routing and security features, including static routes, firewall rules (ACL-based and zone-based), NAT, QoS, and various VPN protocols (IPsec, OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP).
The ER-X is designed for versatility and power efficiency. Its five Gigabit RJ45 ports can be configured for a variety of roles, including as a switch for line-rate Layer-2 switching or as multiple routed interfaces. One of its unique features is the ability to be powered either by the included 12V DC power adapter or by 24V passive PoE on the eth0 port. It can also provide passive PoE passthrough on the eth4 port to power a single compatible device, such as a Ubiquiti airMAX or UniFi access point, reducing the need for an additional power injector. The device is housed in a compact, fanless enclosure, ensuring silent operation.
Configuration can be done through a user-friendly graphical web interface or for advanced users, a powerful command-line interface (CLI) for complete control.
